RESUMEN. Este artículo trata sobre la creación de la Biblioteca Municipal de Calamocha por parte del Gobierno de la II República en 1933 por iniciativa del ministro Vicente Iranzo, nacido en Cella. Al Ayuntamiento le correspondió la designación de la Junta directiva, la búsqueda de un local apropiado y del bibliotecario que la atendiera. También habla de la depuración y retirada de libros llevadas a cabo por el régimen franquista al iniciarse la Guerra Civil en 1936, lo que hizo que la Biblioteca perdiera muchos volúmenes y prácticamente desapareciera en 1943 que es cuando concluye este trabajo.
ABSTRACT. This article examines the creation of the Public Library of Calamocha by the government of the II Spanish Republic in 1933, launched by minister Vicente Iranzo, born in Cella. The City Council oversaw the appointment of the Board of Directors, the search for an appropriate location and hired the librarian.
The text also discusses the purging and books removal carried out by the Franco regime when the Civil War began in 1936, what was a major disgrace for the library and what practically made it disappear in 1943, the end of the period that this work covers.
